Characters and Stories

Every drawing has a story. I love thinking about different personalities and demeanors. What are the motivations behind the actions? What makes a character feel a certain way and why are they more likely to do one thing more than another? What happens next?

My stories evolve from the combination of characters and situational forces that eventually unfold into a sequence. I just need to ask the right questions.

Pepper and Frannie

Pepper and Frannie is my first book as both author and illustrator. These two characters evolved from an earlier illustration of two bunnies with backpacks pausing on their hike to admire the beautiful view, and presumably on a larger adventure. Pepper and Frannie took two distincy personalities and bits of my own journey as a downhill skateboarder, my generous experience with falling, my adventures to all female motorcycling events in the woods, and the many encouraging friends I’ve met along the way…except it’s all mashed together, mixed, and remixed into a tidy 32 page dip.
